South Africa’s top fast bowler Kagiso Rabada has been cleared to play in the World Test Championship final against Australia at Lord’s. He was previously suspended after testing positive for a recreational drug.
Suspension Ends Ahead of Crucial Clash
Kagiso Rabada, aged 29, will return to international cricket next month. The South African Institute of Drug-free Sport confirmed that he served a one-month suspension after a positive drug test during a domestic T20 match on 21 January.
Rabada Accepts Responsibility
Rabada accepted the charge and began a treatment programme. The suspension started on 1 April, and he completed two sessions focused on substance abuse recovery. With the ban over, he may return as early as Tuesday for the Gujarat Titans in the Indian Premier League.
“He will take his lessons from this and we’re just looking forward to having him back part of our group, having him back in practice. He’s served his time,” said Vikram Solanki, director of cricket for the Titans.
Punishment in Line with WADA Guidelines
The one-month ban followed the World Anti-Doping Agency’s standard punishment for recreational drug use. Rabada acknowledged the offence and said it would not define his future.
“Moving forward, this moment will not define me,” he said in a statement last week.
Rabada’s Stats Show His Impact
Rabada is one of the top fast bowlers in the world. He reached 300 Test wickets faster than any player before him. In the 2023–2025 World Test Championship cycle, he took 47 wickets at an average of 19.97, making him South Africa’s top performer.
Performance Against Australia
Rabada has a strong record against Australia. In 10 Tests, he has taken 49 wickets at an average of 23. However, he struggled during the 2022–2023 series in Australia, collecting 11 wickets at an average of 32.
South Africa Look to Rabada for Big Final
With his suspension behind him, Rabada will lead South Africa’s bowling attack at Lord’s. The final against Australia is a major test, and Rabada’s return will be a key boost for the team’s hopes of victory.
