Two motorcyclists lost their lives and one more was seriously hurt after a tragic crash during the British Supersport Championship at Oulton Park.
Deadly Collision at Oulton Park
Owen Jenner, aged 21, and Shane Richardson, aged 29, both died after an 11-bike crash at the first corner of the opening lap. The crash happened at the Old Hall corner, just after the race began.
Tom Tunstall, 47, suffered serious injuries to his back and stomach. He was first treated at the circuit and then taken to Royal Stoke University Hospital.
Race Cancelled After Tragic Incident
MotorSport Vision Racing, the event organisers, confirmed the crash caused a “chain reaction” that brought down 11 riders. The race was immediately stopped as emergency services responded at the track.
The rest of the British Superbike Championship event was cancelled due to the seriousness of the crash and ongoing medical efforts.
Official Statement on the Accident
The organisers said the crash was a “catastrophic accident” with fatal consequences. A full investigation is now underway.
“The Motorcycle Circuit Racing Control Board and MotorSport Vision Racing are investigating the full circumstances of the incident in conjunction with the coroner and Cheshire Constabulary,” the statement read.
Other Riders Involved
Five other riders were treated at the track’s medical centre for minor injuries. These riders were Carl Harris, Max Morgan, Cameron Hall, Freddie Barnes, and Morgan McLaren-Wood.
Three more—Lewis Jones, Corey Tinker, and George Edwards—were also involved but did not suffer any injuries.
Motor Racing Community in Mourning
This accident has deeply affected the motor racing world. Tributes are expected for the young men who lost their lives doing what they loved. Further updates on the investigation and Tunstall’s condition will follow as they are confirmed.
