by Alice

A major new cycling event, Ride Bradford 2025, will take place in Lister Park on Saturday, June 21, with nearby roads set to close to create a safe and welcoming environment for cyclists of all ages and abilities.

The event aims to encourage more residents across the district to take up cycling as a regular and enjoyable form of transport and recreation.

Organised by Bradford Council in partnership with Capital of Cycling, and funded by the West Yorkshire Combined Authority through Active Travel England’s Capability Fund, the event promises a vibrant day of cycling-focused fun and activities.

Throughout the day, cyclists can explore a specially marked route that winds through the scenic park, offering views of Cartwright Hall, one of Bradford’s most iconic landmarks.

A wide range of family-friendly activities will also be on offer inside the park. These include a custom-built pump track, mountain bike stunt displays, bike security marking provided by West Yorkshire Police, and free minor repairs from Dr Bike. There will also be food stalls, information booths, and a selection of adapted bikes for those who don’t have their own.

Councillor Sarah Ferriby, Bradford Council’s Portfolio Holder for Healthy People and Places, shared her excitement:

“I’m very excited to announce Ride Bradford 2025 in Lister Park this June. Cycling is such a great way to travel – it’s healthy, eco-friendly, affordable, and, most importantly, fun for the whole family.

We want to see more people cycling across Bradford, and we’re working closely with our partners at the West Yorkshire Combined Authority to build better cycling infrastructure. Events like Ride Bradford 2025 will help inspire more people to get on their bikes.”

David Robison, Director of Capital of Cycling, also spoke positively about the event:

“As a small local charity, we’re thrilled to be involved in this ambitious event, which will shine a spotlight on the brilliant grassroots cycling work being done by community groups throughout the district.

We’re encouraging as many people as possible to cycle to the event, with organised rides starting from different parts of the city to converge at Lister Park.

In this City of Culture year, this is a perfect opportunity to celebrate Bradford’s rich cycling heritage. Cycling in Bradford is for everyone – all ages, all shapes and sizes – let’s make the turnout huge!”

Ride Bradford 2025 is a free event and will run from 11am to 3pm.

Motorists are advised to plan ahead due to planned road closures in the surrounding area to ensure a safe environment for participants and spectators alike.
