Chester Frost Park, located on scenic Chickamauga Lake—one of Tennessee’s largest lakes—is a top destination for outdoor recreation and relaxation for both Chattanooga locals and visitors.
The park is packed with amenities and activities. Visitors can camp overnight, unwind at the beach areas, rent pavilions or shelters, play a round of disc golf, visit the doggy paddle park, or try out a night in one of the park’s cozy Yurts.
Yes, Yurts—perfect for glamping!
These Yurts are fully equipped for comfort. Some units can sleep up to seven guests and include bunk beds and a sectional sleeper sofa. Others sleep up to four people and come with a queen-sized bed, sleeper sofa, mini fridge, ceiling fan A/C, dining table, benches, indoor chairs, outdoor deck seating, and a charcoal grill.
Guests should bring their own linens, including pillows, blankets, and bed sheets, as the park does not supply them.
In addition to Yurts, Chester Frost Park features RV sites and primitive camping areas—ideal for those who prefer to pitch a tent and enjoy a traditional camping experience.
Amenities for campers include laundry facilities and a dump station. To reserve a campsite, visitors must be at least 18 years old and have motorized transportation. Renting a Yurt requires visitors to be 21 or older, also with a vehicle.
The park also boasts a large sandy beach with nine covered picnic tables, restrooms, and a playground designed for children ages 9–12. Additional family-friendly perks include free Wi-Fi, two more playgrounds outside the beach area, and numerous picnic areas furnished with grills and tables.
Fishing enthusiasts will find ample opportunity with 12 fishing piers, two boat ramps, and boat docks—all conveniently located near restroom facilities. Make sure to have the appropriate fishing license before casting your line. For more activities, the park also features two tennis courts.
Pet lovers can bring their furry companions, provided they are leashed and accompanied by their owners. Pets are welcome throughout the park—except on the beach and inside the Yurts. Only service animals are allowed in the beach area, and owners are responsible for cleaning up after their pets.
Through September 1, guests can enjoy Nooga Splash, a thrilling floating obstacle course offering hours of aquatic fun. This year’s course includes a new 26-foot rock tower slide, adding to the 38-piece aqua park experience. A special kiddie splash zone is available for children under 45 inches tall, making it fun for the entire family.
For those interested in local history, Chester Frost Park is home to Hamilton County’s first and oldest cemetery, the Jackson Chapel Cemetery. In the late 1800s, the Jackson Chapel Methodist Episcopal Church stood where the park superintendent’s headquarters are today. The cemetery, a piece of local heritage, can be found at the park’s entrance on Gold Point Circle.
Whether you’re looking for outdoor adventure, a comfortable glamping retreat, or a peaceful historical site, Chester Frost Park offers something for everyone.
