River Days continues to draw attention and admiration from the local community.
Created to celebrate the natural beauty of the Clinton River and Lake St. Clair, the annual River Days event kicked off Saturday with a range of engaging activities spread throughout Macomb County. Organized by local conservation groups, the celebration aims to educate and inspire stewardship for these vital freshwater resources.
One of the weekend’s highlights was the Clinton River Day Hike, organized by the Burgess-Shadbush Nature Center. Hikers of all ages joined in the guided walk along the riverbank, where experienced naturalists pointed out native plant species and wildlife that rely on the surrounding ecosystem.
The Clinton River Watershed Council (CRWC), which leads efforts to preserve and protect the river and lake, hosts various events year-round. These programs offer opportunities for individuals and families to deepen their understanding of local ecology and to get involved in environmental conservation efforts.
As part of the ongoing calendar of events, the CRWC will host a volunteer day on June 20, when helpers will be needed to assist in the maintenance of a large rain garden — a key project supporting sustainable water management in the region.
