This summer, the Hawai‘i Symphony Orchestra (HSO) is inviting the Windward community to come together for an evening of music, nature, and connection at its annual Symphony in the Park concert. The free event is scheduled for July 9 at 5:30 p.m. and will be held at Kailua District Park.
Supported by long-time sponsor Alexander & Baldwin since 2014, Symphony in the Park aims to make symphonic music accessible to everyone. Residents are encouraged to bring picnic blankets, lawn chairs, and their own dinner as they gather with family and friends to enjoy a night of music under the open sky.
The concert will be conducted by HSO’s Music and Artistic Director, Dane Lam. This year’s program features a blend of classical masterpieces and popular favorites, promising an enjoyable evening for music lovers of all ages.
Adding to the excitement, two rising young musicians will perform as part of the event. Harpist Iris Yun and cellist Lei Yao Chang, both recent graduates of ‘Iolani School and recipients of the 2025 Nā Hōkū ‘Ōpio “Young Stars” award, will join the orchestra on stage. Selected through a competitive statewide process, they represent some of Hawai‘i’s finest young musical talents.
Symphony in the Park is part of HSO’s wider community outreach mission, which focuses on breaking down barriers to the arts, offering youth meaningful performance opportunities, and creating inclusive cultural experiences for local families.
Anyone interested in a serene summer evening filled with beautiful music is welcome to attend. Admission to the concert is free and open to the public, though early arrival is recommended to secure seating and parking.
