A 17-year-old girl from Texas died Monday morning during a hike near Cascadia State Park in Oregon, authorities reported.
According to a news release from the Linn County Sheriff’s Office, the teen was hiking with her father on the Soda Creek Falls Trail, located east of Sweet Home. While playfully hanging from a tree branch, the branch suddenly broke, causing her to fall onto a log. The same branch then fell on top of her.
The girl lost consciousness after the fall. Her father, a resident of Oregon, attempted to carry her down the trail in search of help. Bystanders also stepped in to perform CPR while emergency services were alerted.
Linn County deputies, park personnel, and the Sweet Home Fire Department arrived at the scene shortly after 11 a.m. Sadly, the teen was pronounced dead at the location.
Linn County Sheriff Michelle Duncan and her staff extended their heartfelt condolences to the grieving family during this tragic time.
