Tottenham Hotspur’s manager, Ange Postecoglou, called it “massive” for the club to win the Europa League, highlighting the significance of their 2-0 win over Bodø/Glimt in the semifinals.
Tottenham Hotspur secured a place in the Europa League final with a strong 2-0 victory over Bodø/Glimt, which gave them a 5-1 aggregate win. The win sets up an all-English final against Manchester United, with the match to be played in Bilbao on May 21. This victory means Tottenham will qualify for the Champions League if they triumph over Manchester United.
For Spurs, who have not won a major trophy in 17 years, this Europa League final presents a golden opportunity. Despite struggles in the Premier League, Postecoglou stressed how important it would be for the club to win. “It’s massive,” he said, acknowledging the long wait for silverware and the resilience his players have shown throughout the season.
Postecoglou, who has faced personal challenges and the threat of losing his job, shared his emotional connection to the final. He recalled watching European finals with his father in Australia, and how surreal it felt to be leading a team into one. “I’ll be on the touchline but almost with the imposter syndrome,” he said. He also shared his excitement for his family, especially his wife and children, who have supported him throughout his journey.
Postecoglou’s approach to European football has been more pragmatic. He emphasized his love for winning and praised his team for understanding the task at hand and executing it with quality. “I love winning, and I love the way the boys understood what we needed to do tonight,” he said.
Despite facing setbacks, including injuries to key players, Postecoglou has been impressed with the team’s resilience. They have continued to stick together and fight through adversity, showing their determination to succeed. “This group of players has had it in bucket-loads this year, and we’ve still found a way to deal with it,” he said, expressing belief that they can rise to the occasion in the final.
Tottenham’s Europa League journey has been a testament to resilience, and a win would mark a major achievement for the club and Postecoglou. With the final approaching, both the players and manager are eager to end their trophy drought and make history.
