Beech Mountain is inviting outdoor lovers to lace up their hiking boots and join the town’s second annual “Hike On” month, a celebration of its scenic trail system and recovery efforts following Hurricane Helene. The event runs all throughout May and features special promotions and nature-focused activities.
Visitors can stop by the Visitor’s Center to pick up free hiking maps, water bottles, and decals, and also participate in guided hikes. The aim is to encourage exploration of the area’s natural beauty while supporting tourism and community engagement.
Marketing and tourism director Armando Garcia shared several standout trail recommendations for spring hikers, including:
- Emerald Outback – A trail network near the summit, offering overlooks and breathtaking views
- Buckeye Recreation Center – Explore the Falls Trail and Buckeye Lake Loop
- Wild Iris Trail – A moderate 2.5-mile path through woodlands, perfect for wildflower spotting
- Sassafras Trail
- Red Fox/Arrowhead Trail
- Smoketree Trail
- Overlook Trail
The month-long celebration will conclude on May 31 with a Naturalist Rally, where volunteers will come together for a community clean-up, reinforcing Beech Mountain’s commitment to preserving its environment after recent storm impacts.
Looking ahead, Garcia also promoted an exciting slate of summer events, including the much-loved Blackberry Jam in July and August. This festival merges Beech Mountain’s lively summer music scene with the local blackberry harvest. Attendees can enjoy performances from national artists as part of Beech Mountain Resort’s Summer Concert Series and the popular “Free Music on the Mountain” program.
In addition to the music, local businesses will serve up delicious blackberry-themed creations, including waffles, BBQ sauces, wines, ice cream, pancakes, and desserts.
Finally, the town will also host a monthly farmers market beginning June 6, taking place on the first Friday of each month through October. Shoppers can browse local goods from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. in the public parking lot next to the Sledding Hill.
With nature rebounding and community spirit high, Beech Mountain is the perfect destination this spring and summer for hikers, music fans, and food lovers alike.
