With warm weather signaling the approach of summer, The Wilds is officially reopening to visitors, marking the return of its signature outdoor experiences.
Guests can enjoy the expansive park through a variety of safari options, including the Open-Air Safari tour, the Wildside Safari tour, and the Zipline Safari tour. For those looking for unique experiences, The Wilds also offers the Fishing Safari, the Horseback Safari sunset tour, and birdwatching opportunities—all providing different views of the park’s natural beauty.
A major addition for 2025 is the launch of the Hellbender RV Campground, opening on May 30. This 75-acre site will include 47 full-service RV sites and 26 primitive camping spots. Additional amenities include hiking and biking trails, a playground, a camp store, a dog park, and more.
The campground is named after the Hellbender, North America’s largest amphibian and an endangered species in Ohio. The name honors ongoing conservation efforts to protect local wildlife and waterways, according to a press release.
“The Wilds has always been a place where conservation and adventure come together, and we are incredibly excited to open the Hellbender RV Campground this season,” said Dr. Joe Smith, vice president of The Wilds.
“This new experience will provide our guests with even more opportunities to connect with nature while celebrating a remarkable Ohio species whose resilience mirrors the mission of The Wilds. Whether you’re camping under the stars, exploring our pastures, or learning about our conservation work, there is truly something for everyone.”
The new campground is located at the intersection of State Route 146 and Zion Ridge Road, not far from the main grounds of The Wilds.
According to the press release, the Hellbender RV Campground is projected to attract 35,000 visitors annually.
