After months indoors during the school year, many Central Georgia children are heading into nature this summer. The Naturally Nurtured Nature Camp in Macon is offering them the chance to explore the outdoors, learn new skills, and have fun—away from screens and classrooms.

Located on Thomaston Road, the camp runs for 13 weeks and welcomes children ages 3 to 14. Activities include water balloon games, creek adventures, and up-close encounters with frogs, lizards, crickets, and other small creatures. Campers also learn about trees, gardening, and local wildlife.

“Kids love catching the frogs, the toads, the lizards, the crickets—you name it. We’re gonna be getting down and dirty,” said camp owner Dawn Willis.

Skill-Building in a Natural Setting

Willis says the camp is about more than fun. It helps children build important life skills through nature play. “We get our exercise, we get our fine motor skills, we learn balance, we learn confidence,” she explained.

Beyond physical and personal development, the camp also encourages social growth. Children build friendships and improve communication in a relaxed and playful environment.

Affordable Summer Learning for Local Families

Programs like this can be expensive. According to the American Camp Association, the average cost of a similar camp is $87 per day. Naturally Nurtured Nature Camp, however, charges just $45 per day, with flexible options to choose by the day or week.

“As a mother myself, I raised my children here. I worked full time, so I hope to bring these affordable prices,” Willis said.

Other Budget-Friendly Camps in Central Georgia

Other summer camps in the area are also helping families save. In Warner Robins, a seven-week camp costs $125 per week for city residents. In Bibb County, families pay just $180 for a six-week program—about $6 a day.

For free cooling-off spots, families can also visit local community splash pads.

Open Through August and Inclusive for All

Naturally Nurtured Nature Camp is open through August, offering children a full summer of exploration and discovery. The camp also welcomes students with autism, making it an inclusive choice for all children to enjoy the benefits of nature.
