As summer approaches alongside the Eid al-Adha holiday, there is a noticeable rise in demand for tent and caravan camping across the country. Many holidaymakers seeking a budget-friendly alternative to expensive hotels and a chance to immerse themselves in nature are increasingly turning to campsites.
Rising hotel prices have pushed travelers toward more affordable vacation options, with coastal areas such as the Aegean and Mediterranean regions becoming especially popular. Families and groups of friends eager to enjoy scenic landscapes and the outdoors are choosing tents and caravans for their holidays.
In response, campsites are stepping up their preparations, enhancing facilities and services to accommodate the growing number of visitors. Ahmet Fazlıoğlu, head of the Caravan Manufacturers and Suppliers Association, explained that the summer season represents a significant share of the caravan industry’s annual revenue.
According to Fazlıoğlu, holidaymakers today want the flexibility to travel freely, rather than remaining in a single location. He highlighted strong growth across Türkiye in caravan sales and rentals, attributing the surge to a rising interest in nature-centered vacations. Fazlıoğlu expects the 2025 season to see even higher demand.
He also pointed out that caravanning attracts a diverse crowd—from young adults in their late 20s and 30s seeking a break from urban life to families with children and retirees over 50 who prefer quieter, self-sufficient travel. Caravanning can also significantly lower accommodation and food expenses compared to traditional vacations. He noted that renting a mid-range pull caravan for three to four people costs between 1,500 and 2,500 Turkish Liras ($38 to $64) per day.
Uğur Burhan, manager of a tent campsite in İzmir’s Menderes district, reported a sharp increase in reservations ahead of Eid al-Adha. The holiday, also known as the Feast of Sacrifice, will be celebrated from June 6 to June 9 this year, coinciding with the start of summer.
Burhan mentioned that in addition to tents, demand for caravans and apartment-style units is strong despite the short holiday period and ongoing school sessions. The campsite currently hosts around 400 tents, 70 caravans, and 15 self-contained apartments, all fully booked.
This rising interest in camping highlights a growing trend toward nature-focused and cost-effective holiday options during the busy summer and Eid seasons.
