As the height of the camping season draws near, car-sharing platform Turo has unveiled its top picks for remote UK camping locations for summer 2025 — all best accessed by car.
Coming in second on the list is Kielder Forest in Northumberland. Known as England’s largest forest, Kielder is an ideal destination for campers looking to disconnect and immerse themselves in untouched natural beauty.
Accessible only via narrow forestry roads, Kielder’s secluded campsites reward adventurers with some of the darkest night skies in the country, making it a top spot for stargazing. Beyond the night sky, the forest is crisscrossed with scenic trails suited for every explorer — from peaceful lakeside strolls to adrenaline-filled mountain biking routes.
A short drive from the Kielder Village Campsite leads visitors to the Kielder Observatory. The observatory hosts regular late-night events throughout the summer, offering educational and awe-inspiring views of stars, planets, and galaxies.
Rory Brimmer, Managing Director of Turo UK, commented, “Britain’s most incredible camping experiences are often tucked away in places you can’t reach by train — remote valleys, hidden woodlands, and cliffside meadows that feel like your own private wilderness. The reality is that many of these stunning locations are nearly impossible to access without a vehicle. With the right transport, nature lovers can comfortably and safely explore these hidden gems.”
Other remote locations featured in Turo’s list include Eskdale Green in the Lake District, Dartmoor National Park in Devon, Galloway Forest Park in Scotland, and Osbaston in Leicestershire.
