If you’re seeking a way to enjoy nature this summer, Texas offers 85 state parks featuring diverse landscapes—from canyons and mountains to lakes and more.
Texas Parks and Wildlife reports that the Hill Country region has welcomed an average of over 725,000 visitors to its state parks each summer for the past five years.
Among the favorites are Cedar Hill State Park, McKinney Falls State Park, and Enchanted Rock State Natural Area.
Diane Eichler from Kampgrounds of America, Inc. (KOA) recently spoke with KXAN’s Will DuPree and Avery Travis about this year’s camping trends.
“Campers this year are seeking comfort, convenience, and a strong sense of nostalgia in their outdoor adventures,” Eichler explained.
She shared that many campers want to unplug from digital devices and reconnect around the campfire.
For Texans planning a camping trip, Eichler recommends checking accommodations beforehand—such as pet policies and available lodging options.
“We see plenty of people enjoying traditional tent camping, but glamping is on the rise,” Eichler said. “At KOA, our Deluxe cabins include kitchenettes, linens, bathrooms, and multiple bedrooms, making camping accessible and comfortable for everyone.”
Regarding costs, Eichler suggests families save money by bringing their own meals to cook over the campfire, rather than dining out or staying at hotels. She also highlights KOA’s included amenities.
“We offer many free entertainment options with your camping fee—pools, playgrounds, putt-putt golf, scavenger hunts, and events—all designed to keep your trip fun and budget-friendly,” she added.
This summer, Texas camping combines the best of nature, nostalgia, and affordable family fun.
