Four hikers were successfully rescued late Saturday night from the Stevens Creek Trail by Spokane County Fire District 8 firefighters, with additional support from other fire agencies in the Spokane area.
According to a Facebook post from Spokane County Fire District 8 Firefighters Local 3711, the rescue operation involved the assistance of technical rescue units to reach the stranded individuals.
The Spokane Valley Fire Department reported that emergency dispatchers received calls about a group of teenagers who had become trapped on a cliff and were unable to descend. During the incident, one of the teens fell approximately 20 feet, becoming separated from the group and suffering a leg injury.
Fire District 8 was the first to arrive at the scene and immediately requested aid from nearby departments to help with the complex rescue. Crews found three of the teenagers about 75 feet up a rock formation, while the injured teen was located approximately 50 feet up.
Emergency responders transported the injured teen to a hospital for treatment. The other three teens were safely released to their parents at the scene.
The successful rescue effort was a coordinated operation involving Spokane County Fire District 8, the Spokane Fire Department, the Spokane Valley Fire Department, and the Spokane County Sheriff’s Office.
