The seventh edition of the Mini BTT Concello de Ribadumia is set to ignite excitement this Sunday, bringing together over 400 young cyclists from across Galicia for one of the region’s most anticipated youth sporting events.
Yesterday morning, the event was officially presented at the Leiro football field. In attendance were Ribadumia’s mayor David Castro, Club Ciclista de Ribadumia president Javier Pombo, and the vice president of the Galician Cycling Federation, Óscar Fernando Sánchez Alonso. Their presence added prestige to what promises to be a vibrant and energetic event.
Organized by Club Ciclista Ribadumia, the race will begin at 10:00 AM, attracting between 400 and 450 children aged 4 to 14. The 4-year-old category is expected to have the most participants, reflecting the growing popularity of cycling among the youngest age groups. According to Pombo, the club proudly operates the largest mountain biking school in Galicia, boasting 160 licenses this season — and registration for the race remains open.
Behind the scenes, about 70 organizers and volunteers are working to ensure the event runs smoothly. Their efforts are expected to welcome close to 2,000 visitors to Ribadumia, a significant boost for the local community.
Participants will compete across five unique circuits, each adapted to suit different age groups and skill levels. The youngest riders, including the benjamin category, will ride circuits near the football field, while the promises and beginners will explore nearby forest paths. Older groups, such as the alevin and infantil, will tackle wider, more demanding tracks.
This race marks the seventh event in the Galician Mini BTT calendar, which comprises 20 races in total. True to the spirit of the event, the focus remains on participation rather than competition — no winners will be announced, helping to create a relaxed environment for young athletes to enjoy the sport.
The event is open to both licensed and unlicensed cyclists. Those without a license can still register until Wednesday at midnight, with just a 5-euro insurance fee required. Free training sessions will also be held on Friday and Saturday, encouraging further participation and offering families a chance to get involved.
Adding to the festive atmosphere, nearly 50 caravans are expected to park near the Leiro football field, a testament to the high level of family involvement and support.
Complementing the cycling festivities is another major sporting highlight: the final phase of the Arousa Football 7 tournament, considered Spain’s top football event for the alevin age group. Activities begin this afternoon at the A Senra facilities, where an international friendly match between Stuttgart (Germany) and Japan will kick off at 6:00 PM, promising an exhilarating match to start the weekend.
Between young cyclists taking to the trails and aspiring football stars competing on the pitch, Ribadumia is all set for a weekend bursting with youth, sportsmanship, and community spirit.
