Enric Mas showed signs of peak form during the final stage of the 2025 Critérium du Dauphiné, launching a bold attack that ultimately earned him a sixth-place finish on the day and moved him up three spots to seventh overall in the general classification.
The Spanish rider from Movistar Team was among the strongest in the breakaway and made an aggressive solo attempt. However, Frenchman Lenny Martinez, who later rode solo to victory, had the edge in the decisive moments. Mas, unable to keep pace in the final stretch, was eventually reeled in by the group of race favorites.
Despite missing out on a stage win, Mas remained upbeat. “Not such a good day, but a good day on the bike, a good day in this race,” he said. “Lenny had better legs today. I played for the win and finished sixth. To be honest, I’m happy with the performance thinking about the Tour and we’re going home with good feelings in our legs.”
In post-race remarks to organizers, Mas emphasized Martinez’s strength but also expressed pride in his own effort and in his team’s collective performance. “I had good legs, but as it turned out he had better legs than me, so I can only congratulate him and Bahrain,” Mas said. “And thank my team for working hard for me all week. We finished with a stage win for Iván [Romeo]. I think the team is happy.”
Although Mas is not known for explosive attacks, his persistence and willingness to go on the offensive earned him a solid finish in a highly competitive edition of the Dauphiné. His seventh place overall, boosted by Sunday’s efforts, is a promising sign heading into the upcoming Tour de France.
