A 2-year-old boy who vanished during a family camping trip in Utah was found dead on Saturday, June 14, according to the Summit County Sheriff’s Office.
The child was reported missing around 10:15 a.m. while his family was camping in a trailer near a cabin in the Manorlands area, located approximately 110 miles east of Salt Lake City. An hour later, at about 11:15 a.m., a passerby discovered the toddler in a runoff or drainage channel near Highway 150, roughly a mile from the campsite.
Emergency responders transported the boy to a hospital in Wyoming before transferring him to a Salt Lake City-area facility, where he was later pronounced dead.
While the investigation is ongoing, sheriff’s deputies stated there are no signs of foul play and believe the incident to be a “tragic accident.”
In a statement, the sheriff’s office expressed sympathy for the grieving family: “Our hearts are with them as they grieve this heartbreaking loss.”
