Copper Falls State Park in Wisconsin has long been admired for its breathtaking natural features—two stunning 30-foot waterfalls, a dramatic 100-foot gorge, and ancient lava flow formations that draw hikers from near and far. But now, its campgrounds are also earning high praise.
The Dyrt, a well-known website and mobile app for campers, has named Copper Falls the No. 3 campground in the Midwest Region in its 2025 Best Places to Camp Awards. These rankings are based on real user reviews and ratings submitted by outdoor enthusiasts.
“Copper Falls State Park is a fantastic destination for outdoor enthusiasts. The hiking trails are well-maintained and offer beautiful scenic views, making for an enjoyable trek through nature,” wrote user Malte W. in a December review. “The campsites are spacious and provide a good amount of privacy, allowing for a peaceful camping experience.”
Situated in Mellen, the park offers two campgrounds featuring a total of 55 campsites. The North Campground includes 32 sites, 28 of which have electric hookups. The South Campground provides 23 non-electric sites, including four walk-in spots, and even a four-person cabin outfitted with padded beds and located near shower facilities.
For those seeking a more remote experience, there is a backpack campsite along the Bad River offering a serene and secluded setting.
Nightly rates for camping range from $20 to $30, depending on the amenities, such as electric hookups. All sites come with picnic tables, fire rings, and tent pads, and all are pet-friendly.
Beyond camping, visitors to Copper Falls can enjoy a wide range of outdoor activities, including hiking on scenic trails, fishing in Loon Lake or the nearby rivers, and exploring the park’s many picturesque natural areas.
