This September, the Perth Hills Tourism Alliance and Destination Perth will launch the inaugural WanderFest, a new hiking festival set to showcase the natural beauty of the Perth Hills.
The festival invites hikers of all skill levels to explore trails across Gidgegannup, Kalamunda, Chidlow, Bedfordale, and Jarrahdale throughout the King’s Birthday long weekend, from September 26 to 29. The schedule allows plenty of time for relaxation before the workweek resumes.
WanderFest features five distinct trails catering to different types of hikers, including youth, seniors, those with accessibility needs, and advanced hikers. This diverse selection encourages everyone to participate and experience the region’s scenic landscapes.
For those seeking a challenge, the advanced hike through Kitty’s Gorge offers a rewarding adventure, followed by a visit to Serpentine Falls Tavern to enjoy a wood-fired pizza. Visitors can then unwind at the luxurious Heyscape accommodation for a memorable weekend retreat in the Perth Hills.
Beginners can enjoy a gentler 3km walk around Berry Reserve in Gidgegannup, passing through some of Perth’s most picturesque wildflower displays and waterfalls. Nearby, Unyoked offers three peaceful stays nestled in the wilderness, perfect for a relaxing long weekend.
Day visitors will also find plenty to do, with options including local farmer’s markets, orchard visits, and dining at the many pubs scattered throughout the hills. The festival aims to provide something for everyone, whether for a day trip or an extended stay.
Barbara Hugill, Chairperson of the Perth Hills Tourism Alliance, described WanderFest as an exciting new chapter for local tourism. She emphasized the event’s role in showcasing the trails, landscapes, and businesses that make the region unique, highlighting the power of collaboration among passionate tourism partners.
WanderFest has already been marked on calendars, with organizers urging participants to register early to avoid missing out on this inaugural celebration of Perth Hills’ hiking opportunities.
